About Me

My photo

Tracie Skarbo was motivated to write by her father, who was her biggest supporter. “He was always behind me, rallying me on with my writing. I would always see him with a book in hand. He gave me a great appreciation for the written word, and the power and responsibility that writers have to shape those who read their words. He also taught me to respect nature and to value the beauty within it; my reflections on my environment are just an extension of this.” Skarbo was raised on Vancouver Island and is working on her next two books.

September's Swings

Crickets, drunk on blackberry juice
serenade like ghosts on the breeze
pheromones urging frenzy,
winter has quickened its step

The scent of fallen leaves
and sight of cotton carelessly forgotten
on September’s swings
reminds of encroaching darkness

Looking up through the bottom of sky
past blue’s illusion
moon reaches towards sun
filling witness with warm thirst

Crisp air’s kiss upon apple flesh
blossom pink cherry cheeks
while morning mists
dance with playful thick fingers

Vanilla bean shadows
spill over my coffee cup
infusing me with
rare and wondrous flavor

Leaving longing for cinnamon, nutmeg
cloves and those passionate spices
that dress up the dull, dreary days
of winter’s cocoon

  1. fall comes early to your part of the world, very nicely done :)

  2. that's what i call a real 'season's greeting'

  3. This is such a treat for the senses... definitely a cure for winter's cocoon!

  4. love it...lots of cool texture of the season in it....the leaves...the apples and cider...mmm...the dance of fingers is really nice as well...nutmeg...makes me think of eggnog...my fav fall drink...crickets...lots of smells....ah....

    1. When everything is dreary and dark outside, then I seek delights with the other senses. Luckily fall and winter are full of spicey and sugary pleasures.

  5. Beautiful images here! Love 'vanilla bean shadows.'
